A Big Thank You to The Big Read Participants!
The Big Read 2011 featured Dave Eggers’ Zeitoun. Ten local libraries hosted Zeitoun-related programming that highlighted New Orleans culture, food, and music, disaster preparedness, and political injustice around the world. Thank you for participating in these programs and discussing Zeitoun with us!
We’d also like to thank Anderson’s Bookshop, Barbara’s Bookstore, Frugal Muse, and the Tivoli Theatre for helping The Big Read remain a successful annual event. We appreciate your continued support of our libraries!
Watch for information later in the fall about The Big Read 2012.
Please visit your library to pick up a resource guide for The Big Read, or download the PDF here. Also, check out the calendar for a complete look at all the events occurring at the participating libraries.
But most importantly, grab your copy of Zeitoun and enjoy reading!
The planning is in progress for another exciting Big Read! Please keep checking back for a new look and more information!
The Big Read followers at the Indian Prairie Public Library on March 23 were taken back to 1964. Leslie Goddard posed as Jacqueline Kennedy recounting the events her highly public life as wife and widow of a president. She describes her short years in the White House, directing restoration of the historic rooms and furniture, supporting arts funding, and representing her husband in America and abroad. She also told about her personal battle to protect her children and cope with the aftermath of her husband’s assassination.
